Some of the more dynamic investments in recent years have been in area of wind energy, Biomass or companies which are in the renewable energy space. These investments have been attractive for investors as a new potential growth area. There have also been investment structures where investors have advanced corporate notes to businesses within Ireland as part of a private equity fund. Some investments have been in the hotel sector within Ireland whereby investors have pooled funds to finance the investment with banks and the owners of the hotel enterprise.

Renewable energy has become popular in recent years due to the realisation that the world has become over reliant on fossil fuels which are damaging the environment and influencing changes in the global weather. This backdrop has created demand for other green and sustainable forms of energy. Wind power is ideal for a small Island like Ireland where there is no shortage of wind.
Many other European countries are also investing in wind energy as an alternative to using fossil fuels. Some of the more recent wind turbine investments have been located in Northern Ireland. The UK are a participating country to the Kyoto Protocol which is a legally binding agreement to significantly reduce greenhouse gases.

In the backdrop of these conditions, renewable energy is likely to continue as a potential growth area in the future.
